TTC announces GoFundMe to alleviate cash crunch

Ella Miller

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) announced its commencement of a GoFundMe on its Instagram story this morning. The QR code included in the story links to a crowdfunding campaign aimed at reducing the strain on the public transit system’s budget.

“Long story short guys: we’re screwed,” the about section of the GoFundMe states. “Y’all refuse to pay your fares and- knock knock What is this? It’s the consequences of your own actions. No street car for anyone!”

The about section goes on to detail how the city budget is inadequate as well as problems gifted to the TTC by the federal and provincial governments.

“Get hype for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT!!!! We just can’t thank our buddies at Queen’s Park enough for giving us this WONDERFUL gift. Especially with the added benefit of no extra funding for track maintenance or staff 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪”

The TTC has also highlighted how they may have to begin running trains at four kilometres per hour, which is slower than the average human walking speed, due to track fragility.

Analysts have linked the TTC’s comment about the lack of staff to flyers that have been appearing in Toronto high schools offering community involvement hours with the commission.

The link to the TTC’s GoFundMe can be found in the Abnormal School’s bio. Any little bit helps.
