TMU student groups upset at increasing number of “dine n’ dashers”

Several student groups at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) are frustrated with a brigade of “dine n’ dashers” who have been sneaking into their events just for the free food.

Adrian Maloney, President of the Karaoke Club says that their latest gathering fell victim to this recent phenomenon.

“Nobody sang a single song, they were just hanging around the snack table. Munching,” he said. “Instead of a chorus of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ all you could hear was chewing and lip-smacking.”

According to a survey conducted by the Abnormal School, three out of five students only attend club events for the refreshments.

Sharon Jackson is Treasurer of the American Culture Club and came to the Abnormal School with information identifying two alleged perpetrators.

“They came into the room, ate four shawarmas, and asked to take two more for their friends,” she said. “When we asked if they were part of the club, they straight-up said no and dipped.”

The Toronto Metropolitan Students’ Union (TMSU) said this issue has been difficult to stop.

“We are taking these concerns seriously,” said a spokesperson for the TMSU. “We’re considering  setting up a decoy event to try and catch the culprits.”
